Frequently Asked Questions

After installing Declared on your Shopify store, go to Settings > ShipStation Connection in the app. Enter your ShipStation API Key and API Secret. You can find these in your ShipStation account under Settings > API Settings. Your credentials are encrypted with AES-256 encryption and never stored in plaintext.

ShipStation restricts API access to their Gold Plan ($159/month) and higher tiers. This is a ShipStation requirement, not ours. If you're on a lower-tier ShipStation plan, you'll need to upgrade before Declared can connect. You can check your plan at shipstation.com/pricing.

Auto Mode pushes corrected customs values to ShipStation immediately and automatically. After pushing, it verifies the values were applied correctly.

Review Mode queues corrections for your manual approval first. You can review each order's original and corrected values in the Review Queue, then approve or reject individually. This is useful when getting started or for high-value orders.

You can switch between modes at any time in Settings > Processing.

Declared handles all discount types that Shopify supports: discount codes, automatic discounts, Shopify Scripts, wholesale/B2B pricing, and any combination of these. We use Shopify's discountedUnitPriceAfterAllDiscountsSet field, which reflects the final price after all discounts are applied, so we always get the accurate number regardless of how the discount was created.

We only count international orders that have a discount applied. Domestic orders and full-price international orders don't count toward your plan limit. For example, if you ship 500 orders per month but only 80 are international with discounts, the Free plan (20 orders) or Starter plan (100 orders) would cover you.

When you reach your plan's monthly limit, new orders will not be processed until you either upgrade your plan or a new billing cycle begins. You'll receive email notifications as you approach and hit your limit. Orders that arrive while you're at the limit are not lost — you can upgrade and they'll be processed, or they'll carry over at the next cycle if still pending in ShipStation.

By default, order processing records are retained for 90 days. You can adjust this in Settings > Data Retention to be shorter or longer based on your needs. When you uninstall the app, all data is deleted within 48 hours. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Yes. Declared reads the actual transacted prices from Shopify, which already account for currency and market-specific pricing. Customs values are declared in the currency of the transaction as recorded by Shopify.

Yes. Your ShipStation API Key and Secret are encrypted at rest using AWS Key Management Service (KMS) with AES-256 envelope encryption. They are never stored in plaintext, never logged, and never included in error messages. The encryption keys themselves are managed by AWS KMS and cannot be extracted.
